Career and educational planning resources for Vets
Online Career Counseling Resource:
Experiences during military service may cause Veterans to re-evaluate their career and life goals. Interests may be different, locations may have changed, time and opportunities may have taken on a new meaning.
At MyMilitaryEducation.org Success Coaches are available to work with you in exploring career and educational options, administrating and interpreting career assessments and referring career counseling services to Veterans free of charge. Career assessments available include the Strong Interest Inventory (interests), Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (personality) and the World of Work Inventory (skills). All career assessments and counseling services are provided via online/phone. Online Career and Educational Planning Workshops and Resources:
There are numerous resources available to assist individuals in career decision-making. Minnesota State system offers a self-paced MyMilitary Online Career Workshop, Success Coaches can provide feedback and assist participants throughout the workshop.
In addition, sites such as MyGPS LifePlan, CAREERwise Education, and Career One Stop have career resources specifically for Veterans. These sites include a wide range of career information to help you discover more about yourself, explore available options, make a decision about your career path and set SMART goals to put your plan into action.
Community Resources:
The Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development - Veterans Services will assist Veterans with an in-person orientation to Minnesota CareerForce, provide eligibility determination for special programs and services to train and employ Veterans and much more. Veterans should be certain to connect with their Veterans Employment Representative to begin this process. There are also a variety of career fairs, workshops and other job resources available to Veterans.
Campus Resources:
If you already know which college campus you will be attending it is often a good idea to visit the campus Career Center or make an appointment with a Career Counselor who can help through the career-decision making process and assist you with career assessments, informational interviews, resume writing and more.
