Planning ahead for transfer
When planning to transfer from a two-year community or technical college to a four-year university, consider these suggestions:
- Meet with an academic advisor or counselor at your two-year college
Academic advisors or counselors often have a wealth of information available to help with your transfer plan. They may be able to provide you with a transfer guide that specifies courses that satisfy requirements for your chosen major at both the two-year and four-year school. Equally important, they will help you develop the best plan to follow, taking into consideration your personal goals. - Contact an admissions counselor at your intended four-year college
At least a semester or two before you plan to transfer, it’s appropriate to make contact with an admissions counselors who specifically works with transfer students. Make an appointment to discuss your academic plans and goal. Make sure you’re aware of criteria you must meet to be accepted at the transfer school and also specifically for your major. - Use online transfer tools to assist in your planning
